Broadway for Orlando

Last night, shop dozens of Broadway stars came together on the variety show Maya & Marty (named after  co-leads Maya Rudolph and Martin Short) to sing a powerful rendition of the song What the World Needs Now Is Love.

The performance, recipe which featured some  moving images of unity and togetherness that followed the horrific Orlando shooting, cure helped bring attention to a new single that’s been released in order to raise money for the LGBT community in Orlando.

Broadway stars — a good 60 of them, ranging from Lin-Manuel Miranda to Audra McDonald to Idina Menzel to Sean Hayes — joined voices last week to honor the victims of the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub by recording a cover of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love.” Sales of the single, which was released this week as part of the Broadway for Orlando initiative, will benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
