Super Bowl 50: Lady Gaga

The 2016 Super Bowl has officially ended with the Denver Broncos as NFL champions. It wasn’t just the game that kept viewers interested in the proceedings though. There was a surprisingly strong halftime show and a dozen or so strong commercials that really stood out.

With that in mind, remedy I’ve created a list of the 10 Best Super Bowl Commercials of 2016 (Check out my list of the 2015 commercials here.) In the past, visit I haven’t really delved into the worst Super Bowl commercials but one of the commercials on the show was so inane I had to add it at the bottom of this piece.

Check it out and if you disagree or think I missed something, order let me know in the comments section.

Honorable Mention: Snickers: Snickers has used this concept several times before but casting William Dafoe as an angrier version of Marilyn Monroe filming the famous Seven Year Itch scene was a strong one.

10.) Honda Ridgeline: What happens when you add a truck bed audio system to a vehicle? Well, the sheep start learning lyrics. This cute and memorable commercial shows that.

9.) Kia: It’s Christopher Walken playing with sock puppets? Not something you see every day. Walken takes advantage of the eccentric concept and shows his lighthearted side here.

8.) Coke: Ant Man fighting against the Incredible Hulk for the last Coke in the office? The concept sounds silly for a Marvel movie but it works perfectly in this special-effects laden ad. The humorous ending– “oh, you poor sad Hulk”– only adds to the fun.

7.) Independence Day Resurgence: The teaser trailers for this Independence Day sequel haven’t been that exciting so far but this one gives the audience just what it wants to hear. “They’re coming back,” Bill Pullman states. It’s a disappointment that Will Smith won’t be returning but with actors like Pullman and Goldblum reprising their roles, this movie has great potential.

6.) Doritos: Don’t think too much about the repercussions of this Doritos ad and you’ll enjoy it all the more. The thirty second controversial commercial is short, imaginative and pretty hilarious.

5.) Budweiser: “Hello. I’m Helen Mirren, an adorably frank and uncensored British lady.” So begins a Budweiser commercial that is both smart and informative. Mirren captures our attention before she offers up her “uncensored” opinion of drunk drivers.

4.) 10 Cloverfield Lane: Producer J.J. Abrams has been known for his mysterious cinematic teasers. In this trailer, the plot of this new film isn’t revealed but the spot hints at the story and builds up excitement for its eventual release. Lots of trailers are criticized for giving away too much but with videos like this, Abrams creates buzz around the film without really letting the audience in on its secrets.

3.) Audi R8: A bored former astronaut commander comes back to life driving an Audi and listening to the late David Bowie’s Starman. It’s an uplifting and memorable video that makes us miss the late Bowie all the more.

2.) Heinz Ketchup: A great song, adorable puppies and an open field. What’s not to like?

1.) NFL: A clever concept, this NFL ad recognizes the fact that “9 months after a Super Bowl victory, winning cities see a rise in births.” To celebrate the idea of Super Bowl babies, the ad brings together children throughout the past fifty years who may be the results of Super Bowl celebrations. The ad celebrates these children and the grown adults that they become creating a memorable and unique advertisement.

Worst Commercial of the Super Bowl

Mountain Dew: Three words: Puppy, monkey, baby. Check it out below.

The game may not be over yet but Lady Gaga delivered an early touchdown with her beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled banner.
